Don't go Phishing!

Everyday, thousands of fraudulent emails are sent out to YOUR inboxes. Learn how to identify them, deal with them, and continue to keep your information safe as you navigate the tumultuous waters of the internet.

Do you ever open your email and see major companies emailing you asking you for personal information? What about emails saying that you have won major rewards, but you can’t remember entering any sort of lottery? What you are experiencing is probably Phishing. Phishing can be described as the practice of sending emails from a seemingly trustworthy company in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information. But it looks like the email is from Apple Tech Assistance or Amazon Rewards? If you look carefully at the email address, you will find a small “typo” or number replacing a letter. The impersonator makes their email look like a legitimate business to gain your trust. Then, they will grab your attention, telling you that you have won a prize or been logged out of your account. They usually try to make you panic, saying that you must quickly enter your email and password or immediately type in your credit card number. The best and easiest way to prevent personal information from being stolen through Phishing is to delete all emails that look suspicious. When in doubt, do not click on links sent through emails. Your bank provider won’t send a sudden email asking you for your login. Amazon won’t contact you via email telling you that you’ve won thousands of dollars. Stay safe out there. Protect yourself. Delete suspicious emails.
